Harrisburg, PA – The start of a long-term traffic shift on the westbound Route 22/322 bridges spanning Interstate 81 and the ramp from eastbound Route 22/322 to I-81 north in Dauphin County has changed. Work to shift traffic on westbound Route 22/322 will begin at 8:30 AM Monday, June 5. This work was initially expected to start at 6:00 PM on Monday.
Traffic will be shifted to the left lane so a contractor can mill and pave the bridges and replace expansion dams.
Weather permitting, the contractor will begin placing barrier on westbound Route 22/322 at approximately 8:30 AM on Monday, June 5. A lane restriction will be in place. This work is expected to be completed by late afternoon or early evening. All traffic will be shifted to the left lane. A 12-foot travel lane and 6-foot shoulder will be maintained during this phase of the project.
This work is part of a project that includes bridge preservation work, approach pavement work, sign and sign structure replacements, and other miscellaneous construction on I-81 from Progress Avenue in the City of Harrisburg to the Susquehanna River at the George N. Wade Bridge in Susquehanna Township, and on Route 22 from Elmerton Avenue to about 0.5 miles north of I-81 in the city.
Travelers are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zones for their safety as well as for the safety of the road crews.
The contractor continues repairs to bridge substructures. There are no traffic impacts for this work.
Deblin, Inc., of Mechanicsburg, PA, is the prime contractor on this $9,884,046 project. This project is expected to be completed by October 27, 2023.
